About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Commercial Manager to join our team at Network Rail. As a key member of our commercial team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the successful delivery of our projects.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Monitor and manage commercial aspects of allocated projects, identifying and mitigating risks to ensure compliance with Network Rail's corporate governance and rules.
  2. Manage cost reporting and forecasting, including cost of work done, gross billing, and current contract value, within the Network Rail reporting framework.
  3. Provide commercial advice and guidance to project managers, influencing decision-making and ensuring effective contractor management.
  4. Lead valuation of medium-value/medium-risk contracts and attend progress meetings to actively influence contractor behavior.
  5. Manage assessment and valuation of contractor applications, processing payment certification in accordance with Network Rail processes and contractual terms.
  6. Provide proactive advice and guidance on change management, recommending appropriate action in accordance with Network Rail change control systems.
  7. Produce applications for payment/invoices to outside clients, including supporting documentation as required.
  8. Identify and advise on commercial risk/claim events.
  9. Provide management information and analysis to promote informed decision-making.
  10. Undertake final account settlements and internal reconciliation to project close-out.
  11. Support demonstration of efficiencies and continual improvement of estimating by undertaking cost analysis of completed projects.
  12. Support pre and post-contract procurement activities as required.
Requirements
  • Demonstrable experience in commercially managing investment projects.
  • Relevant experience with works and/or services contracts.
  • Good understanding of railway and/or construction industry forms of contract.
  • Good negotiation skills.
  • Demonstratable supplier management experience.
Desirable
  • Educated to, or working towards, degree standard in a related subject.
  • Membership of a relevant professional institute, chartered status.
  • Demonstratable equivalent experience.
  • Experience of working within a generalist commercial environment.
