Job Overview

At Northampton General Hospital, we are dedicated to enhancing our Estates Engineering framework, focusing on our mechanical and electrical systems to support our commitment to substantial carbon reduction through innovative renewable technologies.

The Estates Engineering Lead will provide specialized knowledge to guide the Estates Maintenance Team in executing both Planned and Reactive maintenance tasks.

This crucial position supervises the execution of the Trust's scheduled maintenance initiatives and manages daily reactive and corrective tasks. As an integral member of the engineering team, the individual in this role will ensure the reliability of the estates engineering services, reduce downtime, and maintain compliance with legal standards and HTM guidelines.

Key Responsibilities

Act as the main point of contact with the Estates Maintenance Manager to implement engineering services for the estate's division.

Oversee service contracts and ensure compliance with established standards.

Carry out various daily responsibilities, including supervising routine, reactive, and corrective maintenance, managing minor projects, conducting risk assessments, health and safety inspections, audits, and participating in internal governance and stakeholder meetings.

Engage in the out-of-hours duty manager rotation and assist with engineering tasks during scheduled tests and shutdowns.

Job Responsibilities

- Ensure Statutory Compliance of Engineering Services

- Manage daily reactive and planned maintenance workloads, prioritizing between statutory, non-statutory servicing, and daily reactive incidents, including health and safety-related tasks.

- Oversee service providers, including evaluating RAMS and issuing work permits.

- Fulfill the duties of Authorised Person (AP), as designated.

- Participate in the Hospitals Manager on Call rotation.

- Conduct feasibility studies, including surveys and work estimates.

- Identify alternative solutions and opportunities for cost savings.

- Implement the highest standards of Health & Safety, maintain statutory training standards across the Estates Maintenance Team, and conduct inspections and audits of completed work.

- Adhere to Trust policies and statutory regulations.

Education & Training

  • HNC/Degree level qualification in Electrical Building Services
  • NVQ Engineering Level 3 in Electrical
