About the Role

At Superscript, we're seeking a highly skilled Commercial SME Underwriter to join our team. As a key member of our underwriting team, you'll be responsible for evaluating and analysing insurance applications from SMEs to determine the risk level and appropriate premium pricing.

You'll work closely with our sales team to gather necessary information, clarify details, and explain underwriting decisions. Your technical expertise and excellent communication skills will be essential in providing technical support and guidance to our clients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Evaluate and analyse insurance applications from SMEs to determine the risk level and appropriate premium pricing.
  • Underwrite new and renewal SME commercial insurance policies in line with company guidelines, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and internal standards.
  • Approve or decline insurance applications based on risk assessment, underwriting guidelines, and company policy.
  • Communicate with our sales team to gather necessary information, clarify details, and explain underwriting decisions.
  • Monitor and manage the performance of the SME insurance portfolio to ensure profitability and growth.
About You
  • 3-5 years experience in commercial underwriting, preferably within the UK SME market.
  • Strong analytical and numerical skills, with the ability to assess risk and make informed decisions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex underwriting decisions clearly and effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail, particularly in documentation and data analysis.
  • Strong customer service orientation with a focus on meeting the needs of clients while balancing profitability.
