Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced finance professional to join the University of Oxford as the Head of Finance. This is a key role within the Nuffield Department of Clinical Neurosciences, and the successful candidate will provide top-quality finance leadership and expertise to support the Department's strategic objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead financial planning and analysis, including budgeting and forecasting, to ensure the Department's financial sustainability and growth.
  • Provide expert advice and management information to members of the Department on a wide range of financial issues, including financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting.
  • Drive forward and deliver strategic project work, including the development and implementation of financial policies and procedures.
  • Ensure the effective management of the Department's finance and grants portfolio, including the administration of grants and the management of financial risks.
  • Provide leadership and management to the finance team, including the development of team members and the implementation of effective team working practices.

Requirements

  • Education to degree level or equivalent, and a recognised professional accountancy qualification, such as ACA, CIMA, ACCA, or CIPFA.
  • Proven experience in a large, complex accounting environment, including experience of working in the Higher Education sector in a research-intensive organisation.
  • Excellent leadership, management, and technical accounting skills, including the ability to provide expert advice and guidance to members of the Department.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work effectively with colleagues at all levels of the Department.

Working Arrangements

The post is full-time, but consideration will be given to candidates wishing to work part-time (minimum 80% FTE) on a pro rata basis.
