About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and organized Trials Officer to join our team at Branston Potatoes. As a Trials Officer, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the success of our variety development trials.

Main Responsibilities
  • Trials Management: Take ownership of the day-to-day tasks for variety development trials, including accountability for data integrity and ensuring that all trials are conducted to the required protocols.
  • Grower Relationships: Foster strong working relationships with our growers to secure suitable trial sites each year, ensuring that our trials are conducted in optimal conditions.
  • Seed Procurement: Work closely with seed breeders to facilitate the procurement of input trial seed, ensuring that the highest quality seed is used for our trials.
  • Planting and Harvesting: Produce accurate planting plans, prepare seed, and distribute to our planting sites. Plant, monitor, and harvest all the trials, as well as take responsibility for equipment and storage of materials.
  • Data Management: Following harvest, work with Agronomy to ensure that all trials material is graded for quality and size, and all data is logged and reported.
  • Sensory Analysis: Work with NPD to cook each variety periodically throughout the storage season to check for sensory acceptance and quality attributes.
  • Quality Assessments: Help out Agronomy with their quality assessments during the storage period.
  • Technical Support: Assist the Technical Lead for Seed and Variety Development with all tasks needed, including assisting with assessments on commercial seed crops across the UK.
Requirements
  • Agricultural experience and a sound working knowledge of potato growing and production.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.
  • Organizational skills and proficiency with IT, including the Microsoft suite.
