Job Title: Estimator

Location: Exeter

Salary: up to £85k

Hours of Work: 37.5 Hours Monday to Friday

Type: Permanent

Start Date: Immediately

We are seeking an experienced Estimator to join our team on a permanent basis. The successful candidate will have a strong background in construction estimating, with a focus on the water industry.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Preparation and submission of tenders, under various forms of procurement
  • Collaboration with the bid team to ensure competitive bids
  • Management of risk and value during the tender period
  • Preparation of budgets and cost plans
  • Appraisal of tender documents
  • Preparation of material and sub-contract enquiries
  • Attending strategy and opportunity meetings with the project team
  • Site visits to identify site-specific risks
  • Contribution to the design development process
  • Preparation of tender Bills of Quantities
  • Preparation of analytical cost estimates
  • Adjudication and comparison of sub-contractor quotations
  • Initiation of technical queries and design development
  • Risk management throughout the tender period
  • Value engineering during the design phase
  • Presentation of the tender to senior management
  • Completion of tender documentation and submission
  • Smooth handover of the project to the operational team
Requirements:
  • Appropriate construction-related degree or similar
  • Minimum of 10 years' experience in a similar role
  • Competent use of Microsoft packages
  • Extensive experience of analytical estimating
  • All forms of contract, including traditional, partnering, design & build, and frameworks
  • Experience of using estimating software
  • Well-developed technical construction knowledge
  • Knowledge of industry standards
  • Ability to build up an estimate from first principles
  • Sound technical and commercial abilities
