About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Health and Safety Specialist to join our team at The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. In this crucial role, you will play a vital part in ensuring the safety and well-being of our staff, patients, and visitors.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive guidance and support to all staff members on health and safety matters throughout the entire risk management cycle.
- Develop and deliver effective training programs to enhance staff understanding of health and safety protocols and best practices.
- Conduct thorough reviews and analyses of incidents, complaints, and claims reports, identifying any recurring themes related to health and safety and implementing appropriate corrective actions.
- Collaborate with key stakeholders to ensure the Trust's compliance with relevant regulatory frameworks, such as the CQC Single Assessment Framework, NHSE Violence Prevention & Reduction Standards, and national NHS Workplace Health & Safety Standards (formerly POSHH guidelines).
- Continuously strive for personal and professional development to maintain a high level of expertise and credibility within the field.
Performance Management
- Foster strong working relationships with all team members involved in risk management and health and safety initiatives.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of incident identification and management processes, incorporating valuable learning points into actionable plans aligned with local and contractual policies.
- Actively participate in preparations for review visits by external monitoring bodies (NHS Resolution and the Care Quality Commission).
- Work closely with the Governance Department to ensure that the Trust Board and relevant committees receive timely and accurate information, promptly addressing any identified risks or non-compliance issues.
- Monitor compliance with alerts from the Central Alerting System (CAS), including prompt response, risk assessment, and implementation of improvement plans.
