Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Systems and Engineering Design for the Circular Economy

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Postdoctoral Research Assistant to join our Circular Economy and Sustainability Lab at the Department of Engineering Science, University of Oxford. The successful candidate will be part of the Circular Electrical and Electronics Programme, which aims to develop systems and engineering design solutions to enable a Circular Economy for Electrical and Electronic Equipment (EEE).
The Research Assistant will be responsible for conducting a Material Flow Analysis and Life-Cycle Assessment of WEEE, establishing circular material, component, product, and system-level design guidelines, and developing and testing solutions with industry to improve the reuse, repair, remanufacture, and recycling of EEE. The successful candidate will also identify potential applications and demonstrator projects for emerging and digital technologies to support the reuse, repair, remanufacturing, and recycling of EEE.
The ideal candidate will possess a relevant PhD/DPhil in Engineering, Engineering Science, Engineering Design, or Systems Engineering, and sufficient specialist knowledge in the discipline to work within the established research programme. The successful candidate will be enthusiastic to learn and work independently and as part of a larger team working on the transition to the circular economy, and have the curiosity and motivation to address important real-world problems through rigorous and ambitious academic inquiry.
The post is funded by UKRI and is fixed-term to 29 June 2028 with the possibility of an extension. The successful candidate will be part of a dynamic and collaborative research team and will have access to state-of-the-art facilities and resources.
