We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Police Staff Investigator PIP Level 2 to join our major crime team based in Portsmouth. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for utilising a range of investigative approaches to gather material, prioritising the victim's needs and ensuring the safe and effective investigation of serious and complex crimes.

The key responsibilities of this role include:

  1. Liaising with other investigators, specialists, and managers to establish and utilise appropriate methods for gathering material and developing procedures to turn material into intelligence or evidence.
  2. Collecting and gathering material, intelligence, and evidence from various sources, recording and retaining evidence in a format that is evidentially admissible to support the investigative process.
  3. Identifying and planning own investigative actions, taking into account resources at force, regional, or national levels, including other agencies, priorities, and proportionality to achieve investigatory objectives.
  4. Assessing threat, harm, and risk to develop and implement plans and strategies to investigate serious and complex crime.
  5. Interviewing witnesses and suspects, gathering required information, intelligence, and evidence in relation to serious and complex investigations, in accordance with PIP2 investigative standards, and generating further lines of enquiry where necessary.
  6. Using relevant powers to arrest and apprehend where necessary and issuing special warnings.
  7. Undertaking associated search and custody procedures to protect and safeguard the public in accordance with legislation and policy.
  8. Providing appropriate support for victims during an investigation, completing risk assessments, and formulating a victim strategy where required, and working with the Victim Care Unit to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the victim.
