About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team at James Lewis Recruitment. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for leading the design and development of mechanical systems for commercial new build and fit-out projects in the South-East of England.

Key Responsibilities
  • Implement and agree design programs to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of projects.
  • Review and dissect mechanical design documentation to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Lead design meetings with internal and external stakeholders to set goals and agree solutions.
  • Closely liaise with the pre-construction team to ensure budgets are adhered to and construction teams have the necessary information and working designs.
  • Develop and issue requests for information (RFIs) to ensure clarity and accuracy in design documentation.
  • Ensure that health and safety procedures are fully adhered to throughout the design and construction process.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Extensive experience in mechanical design and build contracting, preferably in a consultancy or M&E contractor background.
  • Strong leadership and project management skills, with the ability to lead a small team of design engineers and CAD technicians.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong technical knowledge of mechanical design and build principles, with the ability to apply this knowledge to complex projects.
