Position Overview
Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust is on the lookout for dedicated and innovative Acute Medicine Consultants to enhance our established team of medical professionals. This role is designed to support our ongoing commitment to delivering high-quality acute medical care.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Delivering comprehensive Acute Internal Medicine services, including overseeing the medical admissions process and managing patients in the Acute Medical Unit and Short Stay Unit.
- Providing clinical guidance and triage for potential medical admissions, responding to referral inquiries from primary care.
- Supervising junior medical staff and other healthcare professionals, offering insights on treatment plans and management strategies.
- Engaging in educational initiatives for trainees, medical students, and allied health professionals.
- Participating in departmental clinical governance and quality improvement activities.
- Contributing to the overall management of the service, including undertaking specific projects as directed by the Clinical Director.
- Maintaining clinical expertise through continuous professional development and compliance with training and appraisal requirements.

Qualifications and Experience
Essential qualifications include:
- MB BS or equivalent qualification.
- MRCP or equivalent certification.
- Full GMC registration with a license to practice.
- Current ALS certification.
- Entry on the GMC Specialist Register for General (Internal) Medicine or Acute Medicine.
Desirable qualifications may include:
- PhD or higher degree.
- Evidence of Higher Specialty Training leading to CCT in Acute Medicine.
- GMC registered clinical or educational supervisor status.
Essential experience includes:
- Demonstrable skills relevant to the role.
- Active participation in professional development and appraisal.
- Proficiency in common bedside procedures.
- Strong clinical knowledge and evidence-based practice.
- Effective IT skills and presentation abilities.
