Orchestra Operations Manager

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Orchestra Operations Manager to join our team at the Royal Opera House. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our orchestra, including setting up pit and stage facilities, managing logistics, and maintaining the highest standards of safety.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the setup and operation of pit and stage facilities, including instruments, chairs, music stands, technical equipment, and scores.
  • Work closely with the Orchestra Production Manager to ensure the highest standards of safety and logistical requirements are met.
  • Coordinate with the Orchestra Operations Team to plan and execute orchestral logistics, including forward planning of orchestral layouts, facilities maintenance, and day-to-day operations.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with orchestra players, staff, and external partners to ensure seamless communication and collaboration.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry developments and best practices to ensure the Royal Opera House remains at the forefront of orchestral operations.

Requirements:

  • Proven track record in an orchestral stage management, technical, or events project management role.
  • Considerable knowledge of working practices and logistical demands of an orchestra.
  • Ability to read music (basic level) and engage with orchestra players.
  • Experience in the safe handling, storage, and transportation of musical instruments.
  • Working knowledge of relevant H&S regulations, including the current Noise at Work Regulations.
  • Strong project management skills with a demonstrated level of initiative.
  • Proficient Microsoft Office user and experience with software such as OPAS, DIESE, AutoCAD, and Presto (or equivalent event management system software).
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills, with the ability to tailor communications to relevant stakeholders.
