Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Power Electronics Engineer to join our Power Systems Core Delivery Team (CDT) in Edinburgh. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and developing advanced power systems and topologies, as well as providing technical guidance and support to our engineering teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop advanced power systems and topologies, including power supply units (PSUs) and power systems analysis.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to our engineering teams, including schematic capture, component selection, and derating.
  • Collaborate with other CDTs and design teams to create earth and grounding diagrams, electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) plans, and design stage review material.
  • Conduct power system topology analysis and review emerging energy storage and energy conservation techniques.
  • Review the impact of power systems on generator performance and provide recommendations for improvement.
  • Support ad-hoc and emerging power-related tasks on other projects, including fault diagnosis to component level.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, including outsource procurement specifications, statements of work, and test reports.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of HND in Engineering or Systems or related technical discipline.
  • Previous experience in the design, manufacture, test, and integration of PSUs and power systems.
  • Knowledge of ACDC and DCDC switched mode power supply design, control and interface circuitry, and electrical power systems.
  • Experience with simulation software, including Mentor Graphics, Simetrix, LT Spice, and Matlab.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office, Visio, and MS Project.

Working Arrangements:

This is a hybrid working role, with a combination of office and remote work. The successful candidate will be based in Edinburgh and will be required to work closely with our engineering teams and other stakeholders.
