National Highways is seeking a highly skilled Highways Inspector Team Manager to lead a team of Highway Inspectors in the North West region. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the delivery of a high-quality service that meets the requirements of National Highways special defence under Section 58 of the Highways Act. Key responsibilities include providing management and direction to the team, ensuring the health and safety needs and wellbeing of customers and employees are fully considered, and managing the utilisation and allocation of team resources. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in Highways Inspection, knowledge of the New Roads and Street Works Act, and experience in data collection and use of data capture devices. They will also have a strong understanding of the functionality of highway asset components and be able to provide quality customer and stakeholder liaison. The role will require the ability to work unsociable hours and have a full driving licence with no more than 3 points. The successful candidate will be a registered member of the Institute of Highways Engineers and have a strong understanding of the industry. They will be responsible for managing the development and delivery of inspections schedules, ensuring that all inspection findings are recorded in the relevant systems and meet data capture standards. The role will also involve facilitating positive and collaborative ways of working with internal and external stakeholders, such as Traffic Officers, Network Planners and 3rd party supply chain, in order to share knowledge, plan and maximise the use of network occupancy and available traffic management. The successful candidate will be a strong leader and have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. They will be able to work effectively in a team environment and have a strong understanding of the company's values and objectives. The role will require the ability to work independently and make decisions in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate will be able to contribute to joint performance reviews with 3rd party Service Providers and internal colleagues, and be able to identify risks, root causes for performance issues and develop remedial action plans. The role will also involve being available for on duty responsibilities, attending incident sites and providing advice. The successful candidate will be able to decide on immediate interventions required to address defects and safety concerns.
