As a Lead Data Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in building, testing, and maintaining our core data assets. Your contributions will lay the foundation, enabling data scientists and analysts to extract valuable insights from data.
About YouIn this leadership position, you will guide the team to deliver robust data services. Your responsibilities will encompass:
- Setting technical standards for the function by inspiring best practices in data products and services within the team.
- Developing data engineering capability through technical leadership and career development for the wider community.
- Collaborating with senior team members to identify, plan, develop, and deliver data services.
You will also be involved in:
- Driving improvements in data services, including the development and implementation of a new data platform and rollout of a platform for analytics and reporting.
- Providing data-driven support to ongoing organizational projects.
- Defining current processes, facilitating discussions, and advising colleagues on best practices for future process definition. You will document agreed processes and oversee their delivery.
- Leading the design, development, construction, testing, and maintenance of data and processing workflows.
- Gathering qualitative and quantitative information and conducting analysis to develop robust business cases. Contribute to the delivery of 'products' and service improvements.
- Extensive knowledge of integration and transformation within Cloud Data Warehouses (e.g., Azure, AWS, GCP).
- Experience with programming languages such as Python, SQL, PySpark, Java.
- Applying data engineering expertise to architect the most suitable solution design for specific requirements.
- Developing and overseeing the delivery of test plans in line with Solution Assurance best practices.
- Peer reviewing code development and testing by others within NHS Digital.
- Strong project management skills, including the ability to manage competing priorities and tight deadlines for both self and team. Work autonomously to drive your own work program and that of team members.
- Experience working in and leading multidisciplinary teams using agile methodologies.
