About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced individual to fill the position of Head of Subject – Secondary Maths. This is a key role within our organisation, responsible for providing authoritative educational leadership for our Secondary Maths programme.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work closely with senior leadership to inform and support the implementation of a programme strategy that contributes to the overall organisational mission and strategy.
  • Lead cross-functional projects and activities as appropriate, ensuring effective collaboration and communication across teams.
  • Stay up-to-date with sector and subject developments, legislative changes, research findings, and innovative practice relevant to Secondary Maths, on a national and international level.
  • Establish and hold a vision for subject excellence that underpins how our programme is understood and used, and ensure alignment with organisational priorities.
  • Develop and maintain a rigorous understanding of the implementation, impact, and perceptions of our programme, informing educational priorities and driving continuous improvement.
  • Provide school support for schools in our network, grounded in our codified school support model, to ensure high-quality implementation and strong subject outcomes.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with key stakeholders to drive high levels of school engagement and effective communication.
  • Ensure assessment writing is timely, of high quality, and meets school and MAT needs.
  • Work alongside and coordinate subject team members to manage routine year-on-year programme maintenance, including assessment writing, curriculum development, and pedagogical quality assurance.
  • Create clear pedagogical rationale and briefs, and train subject team members and external curriculum designers to deliver a consistently high level of pedagogical content.
  • Lead pedagogical quality assurance reviews, following guidance as appropriate.
  • Build the programme's external profile, sharing our thinking on curriculum design and building strong advocates for our approaches.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of education developments and best practice in teaching.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills.
  • Expert communicator.
  • Strategic outlook when making decisions, recognizing the wider impact.
  • Track record of providing professional development to teachers, including coaching, mentoring, and training.
  • Experienced and confident leader with a proven ability to lead and implement change effectively and sustainably.
  • Ability to probe, challenge, and question appropriately and strive for continual improvement.
  • Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Vision aligned with our high aspirations and expectations of self and others.
