General Operations Specialist

Job Summary:

The General Operator will be responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the grounds, receiving deliveries, tanker drainage, and collection of petroleum samples.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform site tasks that may include the use of hand tools such as an electric drill.
  • Operate electric cutting equipment such as hedge cutters.
  • Use petrol-powered brush cutters on-site and off-site (site perimeter).
  • Conduct groundskeeping activities, including weeding, litter picking, and sweeping.
  • Operate site vehicles (on and off site).
  • Receive site deliveries to storage.
  • Drain nominally empty road tanker compartments – products such as Petrol, Diesel, and Ethanol.
  • Ensure the site remains clean and tidy, including emptying bins – both general and contaminated waste.
  • Maintain site storage building tidiness, organization, and safety.
  • Assist in the event of a site emergency.
  • Perform any other reasonable task that may arise that does not require specific training.
  • Assist the site electrician and site fitter with tasks such as drain-down of product from pipework, isolations, cable pulling, and any two-person task as required, such as lifting/carrying.
  • Occasionally scale site storage tanks via 15m run of steps (risk assessed).
  • Undergo a flange integrity course to assist with 'breaking containment' using pneumatic and battery hand tools.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Use a diesel-powered power washer to work on road tanker loading gantry and across site.
  • Grass mowing of the site and site perimeter (adjacent to highway).
  • Operate a petrol-powered leaf blower.
  • Collect ethanol samples from road tanker compartment, perform tests, and report results. Assist with ethanol offload to storage tank by supervising tanker driver.

Organizational Expectations:

  • Ensure unsafe work is stopped immediately.
  • Participate in all relevant meetings, which could include leading daily operational meetings.
  • Complete required competency training programs.

Communication and Reporting:

  • Ensure free and open communication both within and across departments.
  • Provide accurate and timely information to line manager.

Teamwork and Collaboration:

  • Avoid a flexible working attitude to provide support across all departments to ensure team success.
  • Be open to any changes in working practices and development within the role.
  • Promote and develop healthy working relationships with fellow colleagues, other departments, and customers.

Working Hours:

  • 42 hours per week (flexible shifts to site requirements).
  • Overtime is a requirement of the role, at times with short notice.

Qualifications and Technical Integrity:

  • Trained in the operation tasks related to the receipt, storage, and delivery of petroleum.
  • Able to demonstrate understanding of the hazardous characteristics of the substances handled.
  • Able to demonstrate an understanding of the site safety regulations and controls and the action to be taken in an emergency situation.
