Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Support Worker to join our team at Wakefield Council. As a Support Worker, you will play a vital role in supporting our visually impaired staff members to carry out their duties.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one support to enable the Senior Rehabilitation Officer (SRO) to carry out their duties, including accompanying them on visits to service users' homes and attending meetings within the Wakefield Council District and other areas as necessary.
  • Support the SRO with administrative tasks in the office, including tasks related to rehabilitation services, such as assessing needs under the Care Act, low vision assessments, daily living skills, and orientation and mobility training.
  • Act as a sighted guide in unfamiliar indoor, outdoor, or cluttered environments as required.

Working Hours:

  • Wednesday: 13:00-17:00
  • Thursday: 08:30-17:00 (1 hour lunch)
  • Friday: 08:30-16:30 (1 hour lunch)

Requirements:

  • This role is a self-employed position, and the individual will be responsible for paying their own Income Tax, National Insurance, and pension contributions.
  • Experience of working with visually impaired people is desirable but not essential.
  • Excellent IT skills and experience of Microsoft Office packages.
  • Qualifications in Maths and English Language (GCSE grade C or above or equivalent).

Desirable:

  • Hold a valid driving license and have access to a car with valid business insurance.
