Technical Superintendent – Permanent – Isle of Wight – Competitive Salary

This is an exciting opportunity to join Navis Consulting, a well-established shipping company based on the Isle of Wight. We are seeking a junior engineer looking for their first role ashore to coordinate our technical team and ensure our ships are supplied, stored, and maintained in accordance with our Quality System (SMS).

The shore-based technical team works closely together to ensure our ships have everything they need to operate efficiently. As a Technical Superintendent, you will be responsible for coordinating the technical team, sourcing and purchasing ship stores, monitoring vessel activities, and arranging timely delivery of parts. You will also perform vessel surveys and safety audits, developing relationships with chandlers, port agents, technicians, and local contacts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate the technical team to ensure efficient operations
  • SOURCE and purchase ship stores for Company vessels, always striving for good value
  • Monitor vessels' activities, locations, and requirements through effective communication
  • Arrange timely delivery of parts to the correct location by liaising with the vessel, port agent, and supplier
  • Maintain the parts Ordering System in accordance with the ISM, ensuring it is kept up to date
  • Communicate regularly with the ships relating to spares and stores ordering, and keep them updated with progress on parts requests
  • Perform vessel surveys and safety audits
  • Develop relationships with chandlers, port agents, technicians, and local contacts as well as with local, national, and international suppliers

Requirements:

  • Strong Technical/Engineering background
  • Sea-going experience (Preferred)
  • Ideally hold/have held an OOW Engine (III/1) COC
  • Excellent logistical skills
  • Pro-active and pre-emptive, always thinking ahead when planning maintenance/purchasing
  • Able to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • Hold a full UK drivers license and be prepared to travel
