Genetic Counsellor Specialist

We are seeking an experienced Genetic Counsellor to join our team as a Principal level role. This position will be based in the prenatal team and will lead the operation of the prenatal GC team.
The successful applicant will be responsible for holding clinics in the West Midlands region, in person, virtually, and by phone. The role will also involve some cancer, rare disease, or specialist interest work, depending on the interest of the successful applicant.
This post is an integral part of the Genetic Counsellor management team and the post holder will contribute to leading our dedicated and compassionate team of genetic counsellors and nurse specialists in genetics in conjunction with the other Principal and Consultant Genetic Counsellors and Lead Consultant GC.
Main ResponsibilitiesThe successful applicant will make a key contribution to the strategic direction of the genetic counselling and clinical service through supported roles in management, education, training, research, and service improvement, particularly in the prenatal area.
The successful candidate will be a HCPC AHCS Registered Genetic Counsellor with significant experience of genetic counselling, particularly within rare disease, prenatal, and reproductive genetics. Experience of education, leadership, and management are advantageous. We support flexible and hybrid working with an expectation that a minimum of 2 days per week will be spent on site at BWH.
Key Requirements- Genetic Counsellor Registration with the GCRB, HCPC, or equivalent overseas GC register
- Full clean driving license and access to a car insured for business use
- Several years of professional clinical experience as a Genetic Counsellor
- Experience of working in a multidisciplinary setting and liaising with other health professionals
- Experience of leadership of a team, project, or development
- Experience of education and training within genomics, including supervision of trainee genetic counsellors
- Ability to work autonomously and manage independent clinical caseload
- Displays commitment to professional development through education, research, and audit
- Highly motivated, ambitious, and able to work on own initiative
- Ability to critically analyze and evaluate research findings to inform practice development
- Well-developed IT and presentation skills, including familiarity with clinical and administrative databases and Microsoft Office packages
