About the Role

The NIHR is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Research Manager to lead the delivery of the Global Health Research (GHR) Centres programme. This is a key role within the organisation, requiring a strategic thinker who can develop and deliver a comprehensive process of research management that supports the programme's ambitions for high-quality applied health research in low- and middle-income countries.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver proportionate and effective monitoring approaches for the GHR Centres programme
  • Management of a portfolio of funded GHR projects
  • Produce scheme-level Annual Reviews
  • Represent the team in cross-NIHR MEL-focused activities
  • Stakeholder engagement
  • Lead commissioning activities for future funding calls
  • Flexible support to the team

Line Management: The post holder will be responsible for the line management of one fixed-term Research Manager, and will matrix manage other team members, where appropriate.

Requirements

  • Experience of managing and monitoring ODA-funded research activities in international and fragile contexts
  • Demonstrable experience in complex stakeholder management, within and across multiple organisations
  • Experienced line manager; able to develop and guide junior staff within matrix management environments

Desirable Qualifications

  • Specific experience of research management in biomedical and health research disciplines
  • Experience in leading research commissioning activities
  • Experience of delivering participatory Monitoring, Learning and Evaluation activities
  • Experience of working with UK Government and/or international policy makers and senior decision makers
