The Portering Services team plays a crucial role in supporting various departments within the healthcare facility. As a Patient Transport Specialist, you will be expected to adapt to the dynamic challenges of the workplace, with workload fluctuations influenced by factors such as environmental conditions and patient volume.
You will collaborate with a dedicated team to ensure the seamless operation of services, responding efficiently to requests for patient transfers, assisting during emergencies, and managing the collection and delivery of medical samples and medications. Additionally, you will be responsible for timely tasks such as delivering meal trolleys, linen, supplies, and correspondence.
While many responsibilities are routine, the unpredictable nature of daily operations necessitates a flexible mindset, and you will be encouraged to take initiative in your role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Safely transport patients to and from wards, operating rooms, and departments using various methods including walking, wheelchair, stretcher, or bed.
- Deliver patient records and imaging to designated areas as required.
- Replace medical gases as needed.
- Remove equipment from wards and departments as necessary.
- Manage the disposal of clinical and non-clinical waste and laundry from all areas.
- Accept and properly store linen deliveries in designated locations, preparing linen trolleys for distribution according to established stock levels.
- Maintain accurate records and assist in transporting trolleys to and from wards and departments, ensuring correct unloading procedures.
- Aid in the movement of catering trolleys to and from wards.
- Change curtains in wards and departments as requested by management.
- Participate in team meetings and contribute suggestions for improving operational practices.
- Perform cleaning duties as required.
- Undertake any other reasonable tasks as directed by the Domestic Services Manager.
- Engage in safety communication activities to promote a culture of open dialogue regarding safety matters.
- Uphold the OCS safety image through your actions.
- Ensure you receive necessary training to competently fulfill your duties and accept personal responsibility for safety.
- Review the safe system of work before commencing any tasks.
- Ensure that equipment is maintained and suitable for use.
- Report any health and safety concerns following company procedures.
- Collaborate with the Group Health and Safety team to implement safety initiatives within your areas of responsibility.
Qualifications, Skills & Experience:
Essential:
- Basic literacy skills.
- Training in manual handling.
- Awareness of COSHH regulations.
- Experience with medical gas safety.
Desirable:
- Qualification in customer care.
- Experience in a healthcare setting.
- Previous experience in a similar role.
