We are in search of a skilled news producer with a proven history of compelling video storytelling to contribute to our international video output. This position involves close collaboration with the video production team and AP staff globally to create engaging journalism that resonates with our audience.
Key Responsibilities: Reporting to the production lead, you will play a vital role in crafting our digital video content, which is essential for our clients who depend on us for comprehensive coverage of global events. Your tasks will include creatively editing story components to develop impactful visual narratives for digital viewers; exercising sound news judgment in editorial choices; and swiftly composing relevant storylines and shot lists with precision. You will also be responsible for editing breaking news videos from live feeds under tight deadlines. Proficiency in utilizing social media as a tool for news gathering is essential, and familiarity with visual verification methods is advantageous. Flexibility to work evenings and weekends is required, as our operations run around the clock.
We are looking for candidates who:
- Possess a strong interest in global news, showcasing excellent news judgment and innovative storytelling abilities that captivate digital audiences. You should be able to communicate and promote stories that encourage sharing and engagement across social media platforms.
- Excel in high-pressure news environments, demonstrating a history of meeting deadlines successfully.
- Have exceptional writing skills in English, with the capability to articulate visual narratives clearly and concisely.
- Exhibit strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with a diverse team of journalists at AP, who work across various formats including text, photo, video, audio, digital/social, interactive, and graphics.
- Embrace innovative and inclusive coverage strategies while consistently upholding AP's standards for integrity and objectivity.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Expertise in production and technical editing using Adobe Premiere or similar software, with familiarity in Adobe After Effects being a plus.
- Strong organizational skills, capable of managing multiple projects across different formats and successfully navigating complex storylines.
- Experience collaborating with developers, external clients, and partners is advantageous.
Required Qualifications:
- A bachelor's degree or equivalent experience, such as a minimum of three years in a full-time role at a daily newspaper, broadcast station, online or digital news outlet, or within an AP bureau or regional desk.
- Authorization to work in the U.K. is mandatory.
- Advanced proficiency in written and spoken English is required, with additional language skills being a plus.
- Advanced-level competency in non-linear video editing is essential.
