Job Title: Head of Commercial Operations

Job Summary:

The Head of Commercial Operations will play a pivotal role in supporting the UK Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA) in achieving its mission to lead the delivery of sustainable fusion energy. This senior leadership position will be responsible for leading a team of approximately 30 staff, working closely with the Commercial Director to ensure the Commercial team is effective and compliant in delivering services to the business.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Team Leadership: Manage the Commercial Department, setting targets and monitoring performance, and ensuring the organization has the necessary resources, including training, development, and succession planning, to support operational delivery.
  • Procurement and Commercial: Oversee all aspects of procurement and commercial issues for UKAEA within operational areas, supporting growth and development, with a focus on ensuring full legal compliance with Public Contract Regulations 2015 and the upcoming Procurement Act 2023.
  • Commercial Strategy: Develop and implement the overall commercial procurement strategy, ensuring close liaison and compliance with DESNZ Commercial Team and Cabinet Office requirements.
  • Commercial Systems: Own, lead, maintain, and proactively improve commercial systems, protocols, templates, and procedures within the Procurement team.
  • Commercial Advice: Provide commercial advice on all aspects of procurement and commercial contracts, taking full responsibility and leading on decision-making in this area.

Requirements:

  • Public Sector Procurement Experience: Extensive experience in public sector procurement at a senior level.
  • Leadership and Influencing Skills: Strong leadership, engagement, and influencing skills to develop robust relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
