Position Overview

We are looking for a skilled and adaptable Band 7 Rotational Surgical Pharmacy Specialist to become a vital part of our healthcare team. In this role, you will engage with various surgical disciplines, including orthopedics, general surgery, renal, cardiac services, and critical care, delivering comprehensive pharmaceutical care to our patients.

Key Responsibilities

Your primary duties will encompass:

  • Conducting medication reconciliation and optimizing pharmaceutical therapies.
  • Providing clinical support to multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ensuring the delivery of a cost-effective clinical pharmacy service that prioritizes patient safety and effective drug therapy.
  • Offering expert advice on pharmaceutical care issues to clinical services.
  • Participating in rotations across various specialties, including trauma & orthopedics, critical care, and more.

Main Duties

Within your assigned clinical area, you will:

  • Ensure adherence to best practices and clinical governance in drug therapy.
  • Provide evaluated drug information and treatment recommendations to medical and nursing staff.
  • Contribute to the development of clinical guidelines and participate in educational initiatives.
  • Engage in clinical audits and practice research under the supervision of senior pharmacy staff.
  • Monitor drug expenditures and advise on financial implications of practice changes.
  • Act as a mentor and role model for pharmacy staff within your specialty.
  • Collaborate with community medical and pharmacy staff to ensure seamless patient care.
  • Lead initiatives on Medicines Management and Optimization.
  • Provide clinical pharmacy and prescribing services as required.
  • Work flexibly across all pharmacy departments, covering for colleagues during peak times or absences.

Job Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development of policies, guidelines, and audits related to medication use.
  • Ensure accurate discharge medication is prepared in advance, facilitating a safe transition to primary care.
