Job Overview

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Healthcare Support Worker to join our team on the Medical Assessment Unit within the Division of Medicine at Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Main Duties

The successful candidate will work as a team member of the Multidisciplinary Team, assisting the Registered Nurse in delivering effective and high-quality patient care. This will involve participating in meetings and handovers to discuss patient progress and care, monitoring and maintaining stock levels on the ward, and undertaking errand duties such as transporting specimens and collecting instruments and drugs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Communicate effectively with all members of the multidisciplinary team to ensure safe and high-quality care is provided to all patients.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with ward colleagues.
  • Be aware of the need for cost-effective use of resources when delivering the service.
  • Liaise with Estates and Works Departments in respect of all maintenance issues.
  • Check the ward has sufficient stock to meet the patient and staff needs.
  • Complete daily checking of equipment and returning of equipment to loan store.
Person Specification

The ideal candidate will possess effective level of numeracy and literacy skills, proven ability to remain calm under pressure, and proven ability to demonstrate compassion/empathy/help others. They will also have effective customer service skills, effective communication skills – written and verbal, and effective team player skills.

Work Circumstances & On-Call

The successful candidate will be required to work shifts of 6 or 12 hours, including nights and weekends. Rosters are planned and released six weeks in advance.
