Research Analyst – Economic and Energy Insights Placement

As a Research Analyst in our Economic and Energy Insights team, you will have the opportunity to work on real projects that you will be able to manage through to completion. You will be based in one team throughout your internship and will have the support of a dedicated line manager and a buddy from one of our early careers programs. You will also have the opportunity to attend events and socials with other interns, take part in training sessions to help develop your interpersonal skills and network with leaders from across bp.

Role and Responsibilities

The Economic and Energy Insights team sits within bp's Strategy and Sustainability organisation, whose purpose is to embed sustainability throughout bp and to form a single company-wide approach to strategy and company spending. This includes the delivery of proprietary bp insights, developing a distinctive understanding of global economics, energy markets, customer needs and competitors to support our businesses and strategy.

As part of these responsibilities, the team is responsible for producing bp's Energy Outlook. As the successful candidate for the role, you will support the team in its day-to-day activities, as well as carrying out small ad-hoc research projects and supplying to the Energy Outlook.

  • Supporting bp's central planning teams by providing pricing and other economic data
  • Supervising key energy market indicators (such as supply, demand and inventory data) and forecasts from external agencies
  • Crafting informative reports for the EEI team, including integrating contributions from other team members
  • Supporting research streams and fundamental energy economic analysis, which shapes the Energy Outlook narrative
  • Supporting our Chief Economist in creating presentations for internal and external audiences
Requirements
  • Intern: Must be a placement year/year in industry of a 4-year degree due to graduate in 2027 and on track for a 2:1. Candidates must be studying an Economics degree.
  • Strong spoken and written English language skills, including business and technical English. Language skills will be assessed throughout the recruitment process.
