About the Role
The primary objective of the Bid team is to oversee the preparation and submission of proposals and bids that align with the strategic goals of the organization, thereby enhancing Connected Places Catapult's chances of securing projects. All initiatives undertaken are anticipated to contribute positively to the UK economy through job creation and increased revenue for UK PLC.
The Bid team comprises Senior Bid Managers, Bid Managers, and Bid Coordinators, collaborating closely with the broader Catapult to manage all facets of the bidding process for large and intricate proposals across various income categories. They work in partnership with internal stakeholders to devise strategies for successful bids and collaborate with delivery teams to craft compelling propositions.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee all elements of the bidding process, collaborating with internal stakeholders to establish plans for successful submissions, identifying strategic approaches, win themes, and client requirements.
- Ensure seamless management of the entire bidding process, facilitating clear integration with other internal systems and processes.
- Proactively manage the bidding process through documented meetings, decisions, and strategies, ensuring all key stakeholders are informed and aligned with our proposed solutions.
- Lead both external and internal resources to develop high-quality, commercially viable, and compliant bids, ensuring timely submission to the highest standards.
- Collaborate with Business Development, Ecosystem Directors, Strategists, and Programme Directors to build relationships with key external entities, including potential clients, funding bodies, and partners for collaboration.
- Assist in the development and implementation of best practices for bid development, outlining processes and responsibilities for contributors, and creating tools and templates for bid creation.
- Guide external and internal partners in producing technical, commercial, financial, and operational content for submissions.
- Create, review, and revise bid content as necessary to ensure consistent alignment, language, format, and approach across contributions from multiple parties.
- Coordinate with the bidding team to formulate accurate and cost-effective resource plans.
- Ensure compliance with all internal approval and review processes throughout the bid development lifecycle.
- Document and manage all opportunities and stakeholder engagements within the CRM system.
- Perform any other reasonable duties to support the Catapult in achieving its strategic objectives and ensuring effective business operations.
- Collaborate with internal and external partners to deliver successful bid submissions, engaging multiple stakeholders to shape and finalize proposals.
Requirements
Required Skills and Experience
Essential:
- Demonstrated knowledge in either Commercial or Collaborative Research & Development bids.
- Experience in leading, delivering, and winning large proposals involving multidisciplinary solutions, with commercial clients and/or funding bodies.
- Proven ability to develop bid strategies and value propositions that are client-centric and benefit-led.
- Strong bid writing capabilities, with the skill to transform technical content into compelling, client-focused proposals.
- Familiarity with best practices in bidding for either Commercial or CR&D opportunities.
- Capacity to manage multiple complex bids at various stages and competing deadlines simultaneously and under pressure.
- Experience utilizing CRM tools to document and maintain customer engagement activities and revenue opportunities.
- Confidence in engaging with and challenging senior stakeholders.
- Ability to take initiative and work independently.
- Excellent organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
- Strong work ethic and collaborative spirit.
- A genuine interest in sustainability and a desire to make a meaningful impact.
Desirable:
- APMP or equivalent certification.
