Job Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and enthusiastic clinical support worker to join our Chemotherapy Day Unit at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust.

The post holder will join the existing team to provide support and care for patients attending the treatment suite, working with colleagues to deliver individualised and compassionate patient care.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing support and care for patients during appointments
  • Developing clinical skills, including venepuncture
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues to achieve high-quality patient care
  • Contributing to a positive and supportive team environment
Main Duties of the Job

This post will require you to work 20.0 hours per week, with flexibility to support the extension to a 6-day working service if required.

Although based at the Maidstone site, occasional travel to the Tunbridge Wells site may be necessary for training or meetings.

Person Specification

Essential criteria include:

  • Functional skills English and maths level 1 or GCSE English and maths grade G/1 or above
  • NVQ/Diploma level 2 in Healthcare (competencies assessed in a healthcare environment) or equivalent healthcare qualification
  • Minimum of 1 year full-time equivalent experience as a Healthcare Support Worker/Trainee in a care setting

Desirable criteria include:

  • Functional skills English and maths level 2 or GCSE English and maths grades A*/9 – C/4
  • Previous experience in a care setting or day unit environment
  • Good understanding in oncology & haematology
Skills and Abilities

Essential skills include:

  • Communication – able to read, write and perform simple calculations
  • Personal and people development – good communication skills (written and verbal); can understand and communicate factual information
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Basic keyboard skills
  • Ability to prioritize workload with supervision

Desirable skills include:

  • Information technology skills
  • Venepuncture skills
