About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Teaching Assistant to provide one-on-one support to a Year 7 student at a secondary school in Newport. The student requires assistance due to SEMH challenges, and we are looking for someone with a background in supporting young people who have experienced Trauma and Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Providing individualized support to students with trauma needs, ensuring they feel safe and supported in their learning environment.
  • Implementing trauma-informed approaches to help manage emotional responses and promote positive behavior.
  • Collaborating with staff to create and implement individualized support plans that address each student's unique needs.
  • Creating a stable and reassuring atmosphere where students can feel understood and secure.
  • Supporting students in building coping strategies and resilience to better handle their challenges.

Requirements:

  • Experience working with students who have experienced trauma or have social, emotional, and mental health needs.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive, trusting relationships with students.
  • A deep understanding of the effects of trauma on learning and behavior.
  • Experience in trauma-informed practices, de-escalation techniques, or related professional training is highly valued.
  • Previous experience in a school setting is beneficial, but we also welcome candidates with experience in residential support or similar roles.

What We Offer:

  • A competitive salary of £420 - £465 per week (based on experience and qualifications).
  • A full-time position with hours from 08:30 - 15:30, Monday to Friday (term time only).
  • A temporary contract until August 2025, with the option to make this role permanent at a later date.
