Job Title: Apprentice Controls Engineer

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Controls Engineer to join our dynamic team at a leading Tier 1 Automotive company. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for specifying, managing, and undertaking hardware, software, and safety installations of new equipment to ensure seamless operation and safety of our production facilities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and Commissioning: Designing and commissioning software and associated hardware on new and existing lines.
  • Facility Standards: Maintaining and updating facility standards using lessons learned from previous experience.
  • Machine Safety: Testing machine safety and related control systems.
  • Performance Metrics: Ensuring KPI targets are met on newly installed and existing chassis assembly equipment.
  • Supplier Management: Managing and progressing suppliers against project timelines.
  • Project Reporting: Issuing clear reports on project status and escalating any roadblocks appropriately.
  • Onsite Installations: Overseeing and planning onsite installations, managing external contractors.
  • Process Development: Supporting the Process Development Leader in progressing and completing project-related tasks.
  • Supplier Guidance: Guiding assembly facility suppliers in designing controls, safety, and electrical systems to ensure standards are followed.
Requirements:
  • Automation Expertise: Excellent understanding of automation, electrical, and fluid power systems.
  • Safety Knowledge: Proven understanding of functional machine safety equipment and safety grading requirements.
  • Technical Skills: Ability to modify machine control elements, electrical design, and communication protocols.
  • Soft Skills: Mechanical comprehension, numerical computation, technical understanding, logical understanding, and eagerness to succeed.
  • Leadership: Ability to manage external suppliers and contractors.
Aptitude and Experience:
  • Time Management: Ability to plan and manage one's own time and responsibilities with minimal supervision.
  • Software Modification: Ability to modify automated software sequences.
  • Facility Design: Good knowledge of designing production facilities in the aspects of controls, electrical, and safety.
  • Chassis Assembly: Understanding of chassis assembly processes.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Excellent interpersonal skills to build rapport, displaying trust, integrity, diversity awareness, and good networking skills.
