At Superscript, we're seeking a skilled Commercial Insurance Underwriter to join our team. As a key member of our underwriting team, you'll be responsible for evaluating and analysing insurance applications for SMEs, ensuring that they meet our risk appetite and maintain profitability.
Key Responsibilities- Evaluate and analyse insurance applications from SMEs to determine the risk level and appropriate premium pricing, considering factors such as financial statements, industry classifications, loss history, and other relevant data.
- Underwrite new and renewal SME commercial insurance policies in line with company guidelines, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and internal standards.
- Approve or decline insurance applications based on risk assessment, underwriting guidelines, and company policy.
- Monitor and manage the performance of the SME insurance portfolio to ensure profitability and growth, adjusting underwriting strategies based on market trends, loss ratios, and emerging risks.
- Collaborate with the product team to create or modify insurance products tailored to the SME market.
- Work closely with other underwriters, claims adjusters, and the sales team to ensure a seamless underwriting process and to share knowledge and best practices.
- 3-5 years experience in commercial underwriting, preferably within the UK SME market, with a strong understanding of various lines of business, including commercial combined, property & liability.
- Strong analytical and numerical skills, with the ability to assess risk and make informed decisions, and proficiency in underwriting software and tools.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail, particularly in documentation and data analysis.
