Position Overview

We are looking for a Senior Engineer specializing in Control, Command, Signalling, and Communications to offer expert advice on RSSB's standards and projects related to signalling, particularly focusing on traditional signalling systems and ERTMS/ETCS technologies. This position entails leading the formulation of system compatibility specifications, ensuring secure integration, and overseeing operational technologies, which include hardware, firmware, software, and data for signalling, train control, traffic management, SCADA, and remote monitoring systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver technical leadership and specialized knowledge in rail systems engineering, concentrating on Control, Command, Signalling, and Communications (CCS&C).
  • Lead and participate in research and innovation initiatives, standards formulation, and industry guidance on CCS&C topics, including digital railway advancements, ERTMS, cybersecurity, and interoperability.
  • Collaborate with a diverse array of stakeholders, such as rail operators, infrastructure managers, suppliers, regulators, and academic institutions, to comprehend their requirements and expectations, while promoting best practices in CCS&C engineering.
  • Work within a multidisciplinary team of engineers, analysts, and specialists, and partner with external experts to produce high-quality results that align with RSSB's vision and mission.
Qualifications
  • A degree in engineering, computer science, or a related field, along with a professional qualification (e.g., CEng, IEng, CITP) or equivalent experience.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in CCS&C engineering, with a proven history of successful project delivery and outcomes.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, capable of conveying complex technical information to varied audiences, both verbally and in writing.
  • Analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a knack for applying systems thinking and innovation to CCS&C challenges and opportunities.
  • A commitment to rail safety and standards, along with a dedication to ongoing learning and professional growth.
