Building Services Maintenance Technician


Pertemps Telford is currently seeking a Building Services Maintenance Technician to support our client in Newport, Shropshire.


The main responsibility of the Building Services Maintenance Technician is to enhance property conditions, service quality, and standards while ensuring a safe working environment for all personnel on site.

The Technician will uphold a high standard of quality, ensuring maximum satisfaction for all stakeholders, and will provide first-response solutions to issues involving basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and decorating skills.


Working Hours:
Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM with a 1-hour lunch break.
Additional hours may be required based on business needs.

Compensation:
£40,000 per annum, depending on experience.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide infrastructure, facilities, and building maintenance.
  • Adhere to and enhance health and safety standards across the site, reporting any issues that arise.
  • Maintain area standards up to audit levels.
  • Ensure 5S standards are consistently upheld.
  • Ensure the use of compulsory personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
  • Evaluate current processes and practices to identify new opportunities for improvement.
  • Conduct assessments of equipment and plant conditions.
  • Comply with organizational safety policies and procedures, identifying and mitigating hazards.
  • Diagnose simple faults and perform tests and repairs on domestic water and sanitation systems, as well as basic single and three-phase electrical installations.
  • Observe, report, and rectify substandard conditions of building finishes, fixtures, and fittings.
  • Perform basic plumbing, mechanical, and carpentry tasks.
  • Accurately log data into the company's Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), including remedial work and parts ordering.
  • Assist the hygiene team by removing, replacing, and installing guards to facilitate cleaning.

Planned Preventative Maintenance Tasks Include:
  • Greasing bearings
  • Checking machinery integrity
  • Taking meter readings
  • Conducting daily maintenance checks and inspections
  • Cleaning and replacing filters
  • Ensuring cooling systems operate without faults
  • Monitoring water levels and usage
  • Completing root cause analysis with relevant site teams
  • Conducting plant room checks
  • Managing contractor control

Ideal Candidate:
The ideal candidate will possess electrical and plumbing skills, knowledge of plant rooms including air compressors, refrigeration plants, and air handling units, along with some carpentry abilities. Due to the diverse tasks required on site, responsibilities may include re-hanging doors, fixing leaks, hanging notice boards, and changing light bulbs.

Physical fitness is essential for handling deliveries and collections of equipment on site. A background in maintaining equipment within a services or utilities environment is preferred, along with experience using a CMMS and holding an IEE Wiring Regulations qualification.


Competencies should include strong health and safety awareness, excellent hands-on skills, and good oral and written communication abilities.
