We are excited to announce a vacancy for a permanent Band 7 Senior Biomedical Scientist within the Blood Sciences - Automated Haematology division at a leading healthcare institution. The successful candidate will possess advanced expertise and will oversee the management of the automation and morphology sectors within the laboratory, ensuring the delivery of high-quality clinical diagnostic and therapeutic services.
The Blood Sciences Department is divided into Automated Blood Sciences and Specialist Blood Sciences services. The Automated Blood Sciences section includes Automated Clinical Chemistry, Routine Haematology, Routine Coagulation, and Blood Transfusion, while the Specialist Blood Sciences section encompasses specialized disciplines such as Cell Markers, Haemolysis, Immunology, and Specialized Clinical Chemistry & Toxicology.
Key Responsibilities
As a vital member of the Haematology Senior Team, you will play a crucial role in implementing quality management frameworks across laboratory sections. Your responsibilities will include:
- Ensuring compliance with quality and clinical governance standards.
- Facilitating staff development and training initiatives.
- Managing information systems and strategic planning.
- Overseeing supplies management and capital procurement.
- Supervising Registered BMS, Trainee BMS, and Biomedical Science Assistants.
- Coordinating daily operations of departmental sections and providing regular updates on staffing, workload, and performance metrics.
- Monitoring staff attendance and managing annual leave allocations.

Qualifications and Experience
Essential Qualifications
- HCPC registration.
- FIBMS or MSc in a relevant discipline or equivalent extensive experience with a commitment to obtaining a level 7 qualification.
- IBMS Specialist portfolio in Blood Sciences or equivalent specialist qualification.
- Evidence of continuous professional development.
Essential Experience
- Extensive experience in a UKAS accredited clinical laboratory specializing in Blood Sciences.
- Proficiency in a variety of Blood Sciences diagnostic techniques.
