Job Title: EYFS & SEND Educational Teaching Assistant

We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Teaching Assistant to join our team at Pentland Infant and Nursery School. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of working in an Early Years and Key Stage One environment and experience of supporting children with additional needs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide a range of stimulating learning activities for children in the pre-school and nursery.
  • Make observations of their learning and provide personal care, including nappy changing and preparing snacks.
  • Liaise with parents and collaborate with the class teacher to identify and address individual learning needs.
  • Maintain a safe and secure learning environment.
  • Respond promptly to the emotional and physical needs of the children.
  • Implement and adhere to safeguarding policies and procedures.
  • Deliver small-group activities supported by the class teacher.
  • Contribute to the overall planning and organisation of classroom activities.
SEND Teaching Assistant Role:
  • Provide targeted support to students with a range of additional needs, helping them access the curriculum and fostering an inclusive learning environment.
  • Monitor identified children's progress, assisting with individualised activities and reporting to the Nursery Leader and SENDCO.
  • Liaise with parents and class teachers to ensure delivery of effective SEND provision.
  • Administer medication where necessary and support children with their health, hygiene and self-care needs.
  • Support and supervise children with identified needs during lunch times.
  • Support with the planning and preparation of personalised learning activities.
Requirements:
  • Be very caring, patient and resilient.
  • Have an understanding of the early stages of children's development and the needs of young children.
  • Have excellent interpersonal skills with both children and adults and be able to demonstrate and role model high standards of behaviour, patience and care.
  • Be able to tailor their approach in regard to communication and engagement techniques to optimise learning and social engagement and maximise comfort.
  • Have experience of supporting children with SEND.
  • Have good levels of literacy and numeracy knowledge and experience of improving outcomes for pupils both academically, emotionally and socially.
