Job Description

The Quality Engineer role is a critical position within the Gordon Murray Group, responsible for ensuring the highest standards of quality in our production processes. This encompasses all aspects of quality management, from concept development to final product delivery.

Key Responsibilities
  • Continuously improve manufacturing processes to reduce waste and defects, identifying and resolving issues through root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Capture and analyze quality concerns in prototype and production builds, facilitating root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Manage temporary containment in the assembly process, including approval of component rework and process deviation.
  • Oversee Non-Conforming, Scrap, and reject-return processes.
  • Facilitate the resolution of production and development issues using appropriate tools, including 8D/4D/5Y.
  • Own metrology to support investigations.
  • Support DFMEA and PFMEA's, focusing on critical and significant characteristics to ensure they are captured in design documentation and active controls plans are in place.
  • Support the development and implementation of the GMA measurement and inspection strategy, working with design engineering and SQE's to ensure drawings are suitably dimensioned.
  • Support the Production and Development teams in the continual evolution of process flows, work instructions, and control plans.
  • Support the Senior Quality Engineer in ensuring production and pre-production vehicles meet Type Approval and Conformity of Production standards.
  • Act as a leader for continual improvement using Lean Thinking, Six-Sigma, Poka-Yoke, and Measurement System Analysis.
  • Report on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to adhere to process and prevent non-conformity.
Requirements
  • Essential:
    • Degree qualified in a numerical discipline or equivalent qualification or experience.
    • Fundamental understanding of engineering design, manufacturing, and assembly processes.
    • Experience of leading Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA) in a complex engineering environment.
    • Experience of acting independently as the product quality role in a product technology or engineering business with high cosmetic and perceived quality standards.
    • Experience of using various problem-solving tools and techniques, including 8D and 5Y.
    • Understanding of measurement and inspection methods and techniques, specific Metrology or other technical measurement experience highly valued.
    • Fundamental understanding of manufacturing processes, their strengths, and limitations.
    • Experience of developing process flows, work instructions, and control plans, and demonstrating ability to continually improve and evolve these processes.
    • Experience of using metrics to drive product or system improvements and confidence in using and developing Excel or databases to develop metrics.
    • Fundamental understanding of approach to perceived quality, experience of product benchmarking, target setting, and incorporation of measurement techniques highly valued.
    • Full UK driving license.
    • Organised, persuasive, resourceful, flexible, ambitious, self-directing, passion for delivering objectives, comfortable challenging existing processes.
    • Clear and effective communication skills with internal and external clients.
    • Team player.
  • Desirable:
    • Highly competent in reviewing engineering drawings, with a fundamental understanding of GD&T and awareness of technology availability and suitability to measure complex mechanical design. Experience of Catia V5.
    • Developed processes within a recognised Quality management system, ISO9001 or equivalent, being qualified and experienced as an internal or external auditor.
    • Understanding of Lean Six Sigma approach highly valued and being trained to Green belt.
    • Application and development of Lean Thinking in a complex engineering environment.
