About the Role

HVDC Controls Engineer

We are seeking an experienced HVDC Controls Engineer to join our team in Manchester, UK. As a key member of our Grid Solutions business unit, you will be responsible for designing and delivering full HVDC control and protection solutions for wind farm grid connections and interconnectors.

Your Responsibilities
  • Design and implement open and closed loop control systems for high voltage direct current systems (HVDC).
  • Prepare design specifications, documentation, and effort estimations.
  • Clarify technical requirements within project teams, with customers, and suppliers.
  • Implement control software in MATLAB/SIMULINK and verify using simulation tools and real-time test environments.
  • Provide remote support to the commissioning team during the commissioning phase and the service team during the warranty phase.
Your Skills and Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in electrical engineering or a comparable field of study.
  • Long-term professional experience in energy and control technology.
  • Good knowledge of converter- and high voltage technology, as well as open and closed loop controls.
  • Good MATLAB/SIMULINK knowledge, including model-based implementation and verification.
  • Experience in configuring automation systems, preferably SIMATIC TDC / S7.
  • Very good English language skills, with German language skills being an advantage.
