Decontamination Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Decontamination Technician to join our team at QE Facilities. As a Decontamination Technician, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and effective sterilization of medical devices and equipment.
Key Responsibilities- Responsible for the safe sterilization and disposal of waste produced by the pathology laboratory at Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
- Work closely with pathology laboratory staff to compliantly load sterilizers, safely collect CAT 3 waste, and run sterilizer cycles.
- Ensure adherence to regulations and departmental Standard Operating Procedures to deliver an effective and compliant service.
- Support departmental needs to ensure monitoring, maintenance, and servicing requirements of endoscopes and theatre instruments are undertaken with minimal service disruption.
- Inspect equipment within the decontamination cycle to ensure processes are effective.
- Recognize devices by name and ensure theatre trays and endoscopes are repacked correctly with the correct instruments and ancillary items.
- Attend and participate in departmental meetings and support the development or refreshing of standard operating procedures.
- Education to GCSE or equivalent, including Maths and English.
- Essential skills include team working, ability to stay calm under pressure, professional manner at all times, and knowledge of infection control, health and safety, and COSHH.
- Desirable skills include knowledge and experience in the decontamination of reusable medical devices, ability to train staff in decontamination systems, and supervisory experience.
QE Facilities is a wholly owned subsidiary company of Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust, based in the North East of England. We provide a range of non-clinical services to GHNT and other NHS organizations, including estates, facilities services, procurement, medical engineering and devices, endoscopy decontamination and sterile services, transport, out-patient pharmacy, and prevention and management of violence and aggression training.
