Emergency Response Specialist

Ipswich, Suffolk, United Kingdom Suffolk County Council Full time
Suffolk County Council £22,472 - £23,660 per annum (plus 15% shift enhancement) 29.4 hours per week Permanent Reference: 0774

We are currently seeking an Emergency Response Specialist to join our Home Emergency Alarm Response Service (HEARS) team.

This role requires a highly motivated individual to be part of a dedicated team delivering a 24/7 service for Suffolk County Council.

Our Emergency Response Specialists provide urgent alarm response to HEARS clients across the region. The team is skilled in first aid and manual handling, assisting individuals who have fallen or are injured with specialized equipment, ensuring their safety and comfort at home, thereby promoting their independence.

Daily Responsibilities

The day shift will be conducted from the designated headquarters, responding to emergency calls from this central location.

When not engaged in emergency responses, the team also manages the installation and retrieval of alarms, alongside administrative tasks essential for the efficient operation of the service.

The night shift is performed from your home or designated response address on an on-call basis.

Shift and Rota Patterns

The HEARS team operates on a 24-hour shift pattern:

Day shift: 06:50hrs - 19:10hrs

Night shift: 19:00hrs - 07:00hrs

Full-time Pattern

A typical full-time Responder shift pattern consists of 8 weeks of 2-day shifts, followed by 2-night shifts with a 4-day break before the cycle repeats.

Every 9 weeks, all Responders enter a float period covering 42 hours of shifts over a 14-day timeframe.

The work hours total 29.4 per week on a structured pattern (as described above).

This position requires working during the day, night, and on bank holidays.

Candidate Profile

We are looking for an enthusiastic and dependable individual, preferably with experience in care or emergency response roles. The ability to remain calm and composed in emergency situations is crucial, as you will provide potentially life-saving assistance to clients.

Strong communication skills are essential, particularly when interacting with older and vulnerable individuals. You will need to collaborate with various staff members, external agencies, and family members in a courteous, clear, and empathetic manner. Teamwork is vital for the smooth operation of the service, and you should be able to work closely with colleagues with minimal supervision due to the 24/7 nature of the role. Quick thinking, decisiveness, and the ability to respond promptly are necessary attributes.

Given the challenges faced by this client group, proficiency in using various technologies, including mobile devices and lifting equipment, is essential.

A full UK driving license, an enhanced DBS check, and Police Vetting Clearance are required for this position.

While specific qualifications are preferred, training will be provided. Minimum qualifications include:

Level 3 First Aid at Work Level 2 Moving and Assisting People

Benefits

A career average pension scheme Generous holiday and sick pay entitlements Subsidized parking for work and leisure Public transport discounts Free swimming and gym membership Cycle purchase scheme Numerous personal and professional development opportunities Flexible working arrangements Hybrid working options Employee Assistance Programme The chance to work with excellent colleagues.
