About the Team

The Economic Adviser role is situated within the International Group of the Global Economics (GE) Team, comprising 17 skilled analysts dedicated to providing insightful analysis and economic policy guidance on significant global matters, their implications for the UK economy, and relevant policy priorities.

Key Responsibilities

In this position, you will:

  1. Take the lead in modeling the economic repercussions of foreign economic security policies on both the global and UK economies.
  2. Drive the analysis of future scenarios concerning geopolitical tensions and economic fragmentation, collaborating closely with relevant government departments.
  3. Enhance HM Treasury's comprehension of the economic risks arising from geopolitical tensions, particularly between China and Western nations.
  4. Ensure that your analysis aligns with the UK's domestic economic security strategy and broader objectives, such as fostering growth.

You will oversee all facets of modeling the macroeconomic effects and sector-specific implications of economic security risks and policies. Your work will involve collaboration with various policy teams across HM Treasury and other government departments to provide high-quality analysis that informs the UK's stance on international economic security challenges.

Candidate Profile

To excel in this role, a solid understanding of macroeconomics and proficiency in quantitative macroeconomic analysis, including modeling, is essential. You should be adept at analyzing and interpreting data, as well as simplifying complex technical issues into comprehensible formats.
