The Surgical Services Matron plays a pivotal role in ensuring the seamless management of patient flow and clinical governance within the surgical division. This position is held in collaboration with the Directorate Manager and Clinical Director, ensuring high standards of care and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
The Matron will serve as a professional exemplar for nursing staff, taking necessary actions to maintain the standards expected by the Trust and the nursing profession. Responsibilities include:
- Providing guidance and support to patients, service users, and their families during interactions.
- Overseeing the development, implementation, and evaluation of patient care services within the division.
- Monitoring the quality and timeliness of nursing services in line with established professional and local benchmarks.
- Ensuring that care is delivered safely, efficiently, and promptly.
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the main theatres and pre-operative assessments, with support from the lead surgical practitioner and the Directorate Manager for critical care.

Qualifications and Experience
Essential:
- Completion of a leadership and management course or actively pursuing one.
- Degree-level education or equivalent relevant experience.
- Registered Nurse (RN) or Allied Health Professional (AHP) status.
Desirable:
- Proven experience in managing substantial budgets effectively.
Knowledge and Skills
