About the Role

This position offers an exciting opportunity for a Research Assistant to contribute to a project focused on identifying novel disease-modifying therapies for MND/ALS. The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Conducting molecular assays of tissue samples
  • Performing histology, genomic, and proteomic analysis of post-mortem tissue
  • Curation and analysis of large datasets generated
  • Collaborating with colleagues to achieve research objectives

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the research programme of the School/Institute under the guidance of a member of academic staff or Principal Investigator
  • Analyse and interpret research data, drawing conclusions on outcomes
  • Coordinate own work with others, deal with problems affecting research objectives, and contribute to project planning
  • Present research progress and outcomes to a Principal Investigator or groups overseeing the research project
  • Write up results from own research activity and provide input into the research project's dissemination
  • Work to deadlines, manage competing priorities, and ensure personal knowledge in relevant fields is up to date

Requirements

  • Good honours degree (2.1 or above) in neuroscience, biomedical sciences, natural sciences, or equivalent, with some subject knowledge in neuroscience
  • Experience of research with clear transferable skills and some experience or awareness of the research environment
  • Advanced skills directly related to the research project, including experience of at least 2-3 of the following techniques: behavioural experiments in non-human primates, histology, immunohistochemistry, and mammalian electrophysiology
