We are looking for a Director of Global Operational Excellence. This position is designed for a cross-functional innovator with a proactive attitude, entrepreneurial spirit, and a relentless commitment to revolutionizing drug development and enhancing patient outcomes. This role requires a unique ability to cultivate relationships and act as a thought leader, driving effective partnerships with senior executives across various divisions, challenging conventional approaches through interdisciplinary insights, and creating new avenues for organizational advancement.
Your primary responsibility will be to deliver strategic objectives for Development by spearheading the creation, planning, and execution of critical cross-division enhancement initiatives. You will enhance the executional reliability of a portfolio of change projects by implementing top-tier project management methodologies, effectively leading diverse teams, and integrating insights from both internal and external experts. A strong drive to cultivate world-class expertise, a commitment to mentoring junior team members, and a collaborative spirit are essential for success in this role.
This position offers a hybrid work environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Your duties will encompass, but are not limited to:
- Identifying, proposing, and executing strategic objectives for Development through cross-divisional enhancement projects, utilizing data as a performance benchmark.
- Ensuring the flawless execution of a portfolio of large-scale improvement initiatives that leverage project management best practices to maximize success (e.g., project plans covering scope, timelines, resources, communication strategies, and impact metrics).
- Structuring complex challenges and taking decisive action to resolve them, ensuring alignment with Development principles and strategic priorities.
- Extracting clear insights from intricate information to formulate outcomes and recommendations using both qualitative and quantitative approaches.
- Leading cross-functional teams, influencing without direct authority, to devise optimal solutions and mobilize stakeholders and the organization towards action.
- Building trust-based relationships with senior leaders and stakeholders to enhance service delivery to their organizations.
- Utilizing exceptional verbal and written communication skills to convey information effectively to all audiences, including senior leaders, in a coherent manner.
- Guiding project teams and organizations to comprehensively enhance operating model design, streamline processes, enable data and technology integration, and achieve financial success while ensuring compliance with quality standards and regulations.
- Proactively introducing innovative thought leadership, technologies, processes, and capabilities aimed at accelerating drug delivery to patients.
- Maintaining a strong awareness of process improvement methodologies and best practices.
- Developing a robust talent pipeline for the organization by driving top-tier talent acquisition, succession planning, and fostering the growth of associates.
- Enhancing Operational Excellence by cultivating a culture of excellence, managing change effectively, promoting innovation, and building high-performing teams that leverage drug development opportunities and internal resources.
Qualifications:
What you will bring to this role:
- A Bachelor’s degree in life sciences and/or business administration with 12 to 15 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry or related fields.
- An advanced degree is preferred (e.g., MBA or equivalent).
- An international and/or cross-disciplinary background with a strong understanding of complex operating models and the ability to influence without direct authority.
- Proven experience in managing senior executive relationships and establishing new stakeholder partnerships that lead to successful collaborations.
- Exceptional interpersonal communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to effectively present complex concepts.
- Demonstrated program/project management expertise, with familiarity in methodologies such as Lean Six Sigma, Agile, and Scrum; capable of adapting to multiple demands and unexpected changes while maintaining a positive outlook.
- Strong cross-functional leadership skills and a proven track record of developing high-performing teams from diverse backgrounds.
- A collaborative mindset with outstanding listening skills and the ability to optimize team contributions.
- Strong analytical abilities, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills to navigate complex challenges.
- A deep understanding of the drug research and development process, with expertise in improvement methodologies; certifications in Agile, Scrum, or Lean Six Sigma are preferred.
- A willingness to travel as needed.
