Position Overview
The Inpatient Care Physician will be instrumental in delivering comprehensive medical services to hospitalized patients at Aptive. This role demands a committed professional capable of providing exceptional healthcare in a dynamic setting.
Shifts will include daytime and nighttime hours, encompassing Federal Holidays and rotating weekends within a 40 to 48 hour work week, following a 7 on/off schedule.
Key Responsibilities- Patient Evaluation and Management: Oversee and coordinate all facets of care for hospitalized patients, including initial assessments, appropriate hospital placement, treatment plans, diagnostic study orders and interpretations, medication management, end-of-life discussions, specialist consultations, discharge planning, and collaboration with primary care providers.
- Acute Care Management: Deliver care to patients in critical and acute settings in alignment with organizational policies. Assess, stabilize, and determine the appropriate course of action for inpatients with urgent medical conditions, including leading code and rapid response teams.
- Medical Procedures: Execute a variety of procedures within the scope of hospitalist practice, including but not limited to dermatological, anesthetic, ophthalmic, otolaryngological, cardiothoracic, gastrointestinal, genitourinary, musculoskeletal, resuscitation procedures, lumbar punctures, and others as required.
- Inpatient Admissions Oversight: Review all inpatient admissions recommended by mid-level providers. Ensure seamless hand-offs from the admitting provider to a responsible member of the care team for each admission.
- Consultation and Referral Duties: Offer guidance and instruction to referring physicians regarding the appropriate indications for procedures. Determine the best treatment approach and maintain communication with referring clinicians. Initiate necessary social work referrals for identified patients in need.
- Medication Management: Adhere to established medication policies and procedures, ensuring no sample medications are provided to patients.
- Patient Discharge Education: Provide comprehensive discharge education and follow-up instructions coordinated with the next care setting for all emergency department patients.
- Medical degree from an accredited institution.
- Board certification in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine.
- Active, unrestricted medical license in any State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or the District of Columbia.
- Ability to obtain and maintain necessary hospital credentials.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Strong clinical judgment and capacity to make informed medical decisions in urgent situations.
- Dedication to providing compassionate, patient-centered care.
