Role OverviewAs a Behaviour Support Specialist with a focus on SEMH, you will play a vital role in assisting students with their behaviour and emotional well-being. You will work closely with teachers, parents, and external professionals to develop and implement effective support strategies that foster positive behaviour and emotional growth.
Key Responsibilities- Provide one-to-one and group support to students with SEMH needs, both in and outside of the classroom.
- Develop and implement individualised behaviour support plans in collaboration with teachers, parents, and external agencies.
- Monitor and assess student progress, adjusting support plans as needed.
- Deliver interventions and strategies to manage challenging behaviour and promote positive social and emotional development.
- Build supportive relationships with students to enhance trust and engagement.
- Assist teachers in creating a positive learning environment and offer training on behaviour management techniques.
- Maintain accurate records and report on student progress and incidents as required.
- Participate in regular meetings with the SENCO and other staff to discuss student needs and progress.
- Relevant qualification in education, psychology, or a related field (e.g., degree in Psychology, Child Development, or Teaching Assistant qualification).
- Experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs.
- Strong understanding of behaviour management techniques and strategies.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Empathy, patience, and resilience.
- Additional training or certification in SEMH or related fields (e.g., Team Teach, CBT techniques).
- Experience in a similar role within a school or educational setting.
