Role Summary

As a Senior Transmission Systems Engineer, you will engage in a dynamic and collaborative environment, focusing on strategizing the evolution of the transmission network efficiently. This role involves integrating innovative methodologies to support the adoption of renewable energy sources and other infrastructural developments while upholding operational excellence.

Essential Qualifications and Skills

  • A degree in engineering with a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience and a solid understanding of power systems.
  • A strong desire to contribute to the advancement of the transmission network to achieve renewable energy goals and accommodate demand growth, alongside integrating new technologies within the energy policy framework.
  • Proficient in resolving intricate challenges in a collaborative setting, showcasing robust analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Experienced in power system analysis, including steady state load flow, voltage, short circuit analysis, and transient stability, utilizing simulation tools such as PSS/E, PowerFactory, DSA tools, Matlab, or Plexos.
  • A practical understanding of electrical infrastructure development, particularly in overhead lines, cables, and high voltage equipment.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a team, demonstrating flexibility and a strong initiative to meet tight deadlines and complete projects successfully.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with a focus on high-quality report writing and the ability to convey technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience in mentoring junior colleagues in power system analysis and planning.
  • Capability to work collaboratively across the organization and with external partners to enhance engagement as we aim to transform the power system for future generations.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • A clear and enthusiastic interest in continuous professional development.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A degree in electrical engineering.
  • Proficiency in scripting and utilizing Python for power system analysis.
  • An understanding of Cost Benefit Analysis.
  • Familiarity with consenting processes for electricity infrastructure and an awareness of the impact of such infrastructure on local communities and the environment.
  • Experience in a regulated industry and in preparing regulatory submissions for cost recovery.
  • Membership in a relevant professional organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess future power system requirements and potential solutions through power system analysis, including steady state load flow, voltage short circuit, and transient stability.
  • Develop and evaluate system reinforcement options based on multiple criteria, including technical, cost, and environmental factors, recommending optimal solutions.
  • Conduct cost-benefit assessments.
  • Identify optimal methods for connecting generation and demand customers to the transmission network and determine necessary transmission reinforcements.
  • Engage with customers seeking grid connections, effectively communicating technical information.
  • Implement the Transmission System Security and Planning Standards.
  • Utilize knowledge and experience in power system modeling and simulation with PSS/E, Plexos, or DIgSILENT Power Factory.
  • Guide junior team members and foster a solution-oriented team culture.
  • Draft comprehensive technical reports and communicate findings clearly to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Prepare documentation aimed at securing internal governance and external regulatory approval for Transmission Network Pre-construction Projects.
  • Identify and implement innovative strategies to enhance the planning and delivery of future power systems.
