ABOUT THE POSITION:
The CNC Manufacturing Specialist will concentrate on **developing CNC programming strategies** to manage the contour path machining of metal and composite components on automated machinery.
KEY QUALIFICATIONS:
- A robust background in precision engineering, specializing in the manufacturing of mechanical components with stringent tolerances across various metals
- At least 5 years of experience in off-line CNC programming utilizing CAD/CAM software within a lean manufacturing framework
- Familiarity with Gibbs CAM software is beneficial
- Skilled in using precision inspection tools such as CMM, micrometers, calipers, height gauges, and bore gauges
- Possession of NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualifications, such as a completed apprenticeship or HNC in Mechanical Engineering
- Experience with project management methodologies like Prince2 is advantageous
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Examine technical drawings and design specifications to ascertain dimensions, cutting tools, machine speeds, and feed rates
- Evaluate routings during the programming phase to ensure the effective use of CNC machinery through innovative planning
- Calculate angular and linear dimensions, radii, and curvatures, and establish the sequence of machining operations
- Create, modify, and optimize CNC Programs in accordance with routed operations and prepare setup documentation
- Collaborate with shop floor personnel, Shift Managers, and suppliers regarding tooling and fixtures
- Produce bills of materials and routings for manufactured components, assisting in make-or-buy decisions
- Implement cost-saving measures and advocate for Lean Manufacturing principles
- Proactively identify opportunities for Continuous Improvement initiatives
