Job Summary

This is an exciting opportunity to join our Elective Surgical Admissions team as we roll out Dedicated Ward Pharmacy (DWP) across the trust. As an Advanced Clinical Pharmacist, you will contribute to elective patient care during their pre-operative journey, working closely with anaesthetists, surgeons, and other multidisciplinary team members to optimize pharmaceutical management.

Key Responsibilities
  • Contribute to the clinical and advisory pharmacy service, specifically to the pre-operative assessment clinic (POAC) and Main Theatres Admission Unit (MTAU)
  • Provide pharmacy support to a named surgical directorate, including providing specialist input into theatre areas
  • Identify new opportunities for the development of pharmacy services and assist in the preparation of business cases to support these developments
  • Support the training of all staff across the division, including medical, nursing, and pharmacy staff
  • Optimize medicines management by reconciling drug histories, performing structured medication reviews, and using patients' own medicines
  • Monitor interventions in treatment to identify training and information needs
  • Implement countywide and local prescribing strategies within the trust and practices
  • Undertake validation duties in the dispensary within Northampton General Hospital
Management and Supervision
  • Line manage and lead staff allocated, undertaking appraisals, supervision, and identification of training and development of their skills and knowledge
  • Partake/lead in recruitment of junior pharmacists or other pharmacy staff as required
  • Deputize for Advanced/Lead Pharmacists when required
Education and Training
  • Attend Clinical Pharmacy meetings and education/training schemes relevant to the post
  • Take part in formal and informal training of pharmacy staff and other healthcare professionals in both settings
