Job Summary

The Commonwealth of Virginia's Department of Facilities Management is seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to serve as a Housekeeping Supervisor. This role will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Custodial Services Department, ensuring a clean and safe environment for students, faculty, and staff.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and direct the work activities of the custodial staff, ensuring that daily duties are completed efficiently and effectively.
  • Train and develop staff members to enhance their skills and knowledge in housekeeping operations.
  • Manage employee payroll, leave requests, supply inventory, and equipment maintenance.
  • Perform general housekeeping functions, including stripping, waxing, and buffing floors, as well as carpet cleaning.
  • Work with staff to complete special events and projects outside of normal daily schedules.
  • Serve on the college-wide emergency response and events team.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of cleaning methods, use of cleaning supplies and equipment, and proper safety techniques related to housekeeping operations.
  • Considerable skills in the use of buffers, burnishers, wet and dry vacuums, and other housekeeping equipment.
  • Possess skills in stripping, waxing, buffing floors, and carpet cleaning (dry and wet methods).
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply proper safety techniques to be used in day-to-day housekeeping operations.
  • Demonstrate the ability to function independently, give and receive written and oral instructions, and direct the work of others.
  • Ability to lift and move heavy objects, stand for extended periods of time, and tolerate contact with a variety of cleaning products and solutions.
  • High school diploma or GED or equivalent combination of training and education that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Training and/or related experience in housekeeping may be substituted for educational requirements.
  • Hands-on experience in day-to-day cleaning or institution-type setting.
  • General computer knowledge required.
  • Some supervisory experience required.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
